Skill Wheel

India’s rising rural-to-urban migration, with over 78 million people moving in search of work, often traps migrants, especially inter-state workers and women, in cycles of low education, informal jobs, and vulnerability. To address this, Skill Wheel offers a scalable and inclusive solution that bridges the gap between education and employment through both digital and spatial tools. The digital platform enables migrant registration, networking, and access to skill-based tutorials and job opportunities, while deployable Skill Wheel toolkits at high-migrant sites provide on-ground training in communication, craft, and vocational skills. Structured in three phases: Freedom for Movement, Window for Knowledge and Networking, and Guide for Self-Sustenance, the strategy empowers migrants to transition from unskilled labor to stable livelihoods and entrepreneurship. Integrable with existing government initiatives, Skill Wheel enhances socio-economic resilience by turning migration from a condition of precarity into a pathway of empowerment, inclusion, and long-term self-sufficiency.
